Kurt Phillips is a multi-faceted musician. With a great deal of experience in both writing and performing music, he has proven himself to be a valuable member of the music community and is becoming more and more sought after. In July 2013, Kurt was awarded with a First Class Honors Degree in Professional Music Performance (BMus) from the Academy of Contemporary Music. Through extensively studying the theory of performance, and completely immersing himself in the instrument, he has gained invaluable and varied knowledge of his specialist subject, as well as the music industry. Alongside his Degree Kurt has also received Grade 8 in his instrument and studied with the world-renowned and prestigious drum teacher Bob Armstrong, giving him a greater understanding of technique, versatility, and all round musicianship.
Kurt regularly appears on the recordings of three acoustic acts: Richard Jacobs, Carl Fryer and Dale Zeffertt. He accompanies them live wherever possible, which allows him to display his proficiency in choosing exactly the right percussion, sets to use depending on song style; dynamics; and even taking into consideration the size and acoustics of a venue. Kurt has also appeared alongside these artists in various scenarios on YouTube amassing a large amount of views collectively. In addition to these regular artists Kurt has also played on the Debut Album for Peter Howarth (front man of The Hollies and long time guitarist to Cliff Richard), as well as playing with him live.
Further, not only accompanying solo acoustic acts, Kurt Phillips gigs regularly with four of his own bands (Artemis, Glass Mazes, Glow In The Dark Shark and Pariso). Each if these bands have been releasing their own material independently and through labels. Kurt regularly tours in the UK and Europe, Kurt has a wide range of performance experience generating a large interest in collaboration with him. This experience has already proved invaluable not only to himself as a performer, but also to his fellow bandmates and collaborators.
Kurt is very passionate about passing on the knowledge that he has acquired through all his years of experience and has taught privately for over 5 years. His approach always varies on the Student, lessons can always be made to fit the students needs. Whether this is a case of a Student just wanting to know how to play songs, specific genres, sight reading or just generally wanting to gain as much knowledge as possible about every aspect of playing. Everyone is different, so lessons are always tailored to the individual and their needs. Every student will have a different way of learning so it is important to discover this and utilise it to gain the best results for the individual.
